Large language model (LLM)

What is a Large language model?

A large language model (LLM) is an AI model trained on very large amounts of text to understand and generate language. LLMs such as GPT, Claude and Gemini power chatbots, AI agents, summarisation, extraction and writing tools.

LLMs predict the most likely next words given a prompt, which lets them answer questions, follow instructions and produce structured output such as JSON.

On their own, LLMs can state incorrect facts confidently. Business systems therefore ground them in trusted data (RAG), constrain their outputs and evaluate them continuously.
